Scott King: Songs

Wasted World

(Scott King)
2005
From Portrait.
Dark doesn't work for some people. It works for me. I think this song is really dark, and that's how I intended it to be. This character has not only lost everything; he knows that the devastation is due, at least in part, to his own poor choices, and he doesn't expect to get any sympathy: "You just turn around and walk away." Reminds me of Clapton's character in "Lonely Stranger" who says, "Don't get close to me."

WASTED WORLD

In my wasted world there's no room for anyone
In my wasted world every stitch has come undone
In my wasted world ashes cover sleepy streets
And in my wasted world, bones for bed and skin for sheets

In my wasted world, I don't need no one to drag me down
Cause in my wasted world I'm already six feet underground
But I won't make a sound
You just turn around and walk away

In my wasted world, ruins where my house once stood
And in my wasted world, fingertips all black with soot
In my wasted world, cascade of crippling memories
And in my wasted world, supplicants on bended knees

In my wasted world, I don't need no one to drag me down
Cause in my wasted world I'm already six feet underground

Yeah In my wasted world, I don't need no one to drag me down
Cause in my wasted world I'm already six feet underground
But I won't make a sound
You just turn around and walk away

You just turn around and walk away
Walk away.
