Scott King: Songs

Aunt Camilla Brown

(Scott King)
2007
From In Your Head.
From the album, "In Your Head" (Olsen/2007)

I wrote this one after the 2004 U.S. election when the Evangelical vote helped George Bush win a second term in the White House.

AUNT CAMILLA BROWN

Aunt Camilla Brown in her armadillo town is early to church on Sunday
Everyone around will hear from Mrs. Brown if they weren't in church on Sunday
And all day long on Monday she is telling everybody that she knows
Tomorrow is the one day that they've got to get themselves down to the polls
Oh, oh, she feels it
She feels it in her soul

Aunt Camilla Brown in her blood-red battle town is early to vote on Tuesday
She can hear the sound of an armadillo town that ain't gonna have no blue day
And all day long on Wednesday she is telling everybody that she knows
Everything works better when the people all stand straight in even rows
Oh, oh, don't you know
Yeah, well you should know

Aunt Camilla Brown in her daisy-lemon gown with her green-persimmon frown thinks you're lazy when you're
down

Is early to church on Sunday.
